Happy New Year from all of us at MMMusicworks! Year 2012 promises to be our best ever. We’ve got more workshops, concerts and inspiration up our sleeves …On deck this spring, watch for dates and details on George’s “Slide Rules” Workshop, Bryan Briggs’ Alternate and Legato picking (a must for the serious shredder), “Getting the Best Sound out of your Drumkit” with Bruce T. Wittet, “Build a Space Drum” with George and Mike, and more. Ukulele Club kicks off this February and our Student Showcase also promises to be by far the most exciting and eclectic ever. Oh, and did we mention… 2012 is the year we’ll finally see The Return of Stephen Bennett! Stay Tuned (sign up on our mailing list if you haven’t already) and get ready for the most musical year yet!
MMMusicworks is a multi-faceted music hub located in Almonte, Ontario. Here we teach a myriad of musical instruments, sell instruments and accessories including acoustic and digital pianos, acoustic and electric guitars, violins, banjos, mandolins, melodions, wind chimes and more. A recording studio is being built, and much, much more is in MMMusicworks!
So Much News, So Little Time…
There’s a ton of stuff we want to share with you here at the coolest music shoppe in the valley, but keeping abreast of the shop is a tall enough order for our small team, and staying abreast of this here website is kinda like a fast glance in the rearview… here’s a handful of them off the top of our noggin’ :

Turcotte Releases Second Record
Check out “Gumshoe“, track 6 off Mellonta Tauta, George’s latest effort. It’ll give you an idea of where his head is at on this one – it’s a bit “off the path.” The tune features an ancient pump organ, a big drum sound a la Peter Gabriel and the banjo to create the atmosphere we’re looking for here.

MMMusicworks turns 4! Join us!
On Saturday, December 3rd, join us from 10am – 5pm to celebrate 4 years of good business. To thank you, our customers, the table will be laden with goodies, and the air filled with music. Enjoy live performances by our instructors, a nibble and a drink, and of course, the annual kickoff of our Christmas Sale! Note, our actual birthday is on December 1st, but we think Saturday is best to have a party.
George Turcotte’s CD Release Party
Take a journey into the musical mind of George Turcotte. But be forewarned! We’re heading for Mars on this one, literally. On December 3rd, Turcotte is poised to release his sophomore release, Mellonta Tauta, in the shop from 10am to 5pm. This is a concept album that follows the bizarre life of a frustrated clan of hillbillies across the universe in a balloon powered space truck – fans of Edgar Allen Poe will understand. The album showcases the Dobro as a featured instrument, and is rife with banjo, mandolin and no electric guitars – a bit of a departure for George.
Also featured on the album are some of our fine instructors. Guests include School Director Kathryn Briggs and teachers Terry Tufts, Tobias Meis, Peter Brown, Victor Maltby, and Katy Maltby.
We’ll be uploading samples over the next few weeks, but please drop by the store for an earful on December 3rd, and beyond…
Sweet New Arrivals in the Guitar Room
We’ve just received a few fresh and very exciting shipments in the world of guitars. It feels great to be back in the saddle with the excellent line of Blueridge guitars. This company consistently delivers gorgeous instruments that compete with the big boys at a fraction of the price, and this latest batch is no exception.
And this week we’ve welcomed a new line. We’ve had our eyeballs on these guitars for quite a while and decided the time was right to take the plunge. We’ve experimented with just two, off-the-path type units, a 12-string and a 12 fret model, just to get our feet wet and test the waters. These two instruments have left us stunned and scratching our heads at their ridiculous price tags. MMMusicworks excitedly announces the arrival of Recording King guitars; we have a pretty strong hunch we’ll be stocking these babies for life. Come and check ‘em out!

Hello Music aficionados! Welcome to our new website, and a new season of music here at MMMusicworks. You’ll notice some changes both in our shop and school, and lots here on our website – same great look and feel, but much more content! We’re adding a visual arts gallery to our showroom floor, a calendar of musical events in our neighbourhood, we now offer custom bags, and more… We’d like to wish you all the best in the new school year, and look forward to serving all of your musical needs.

Rock Opera Revue
Coolest summertime music-making operation this year - a combination of private lessons and band time, learning rock opera classics. Experience what it is like to be in a band and how it works when you play with other musicians and then stage the tunes in the fall. August 8 – 19. $275 gets you in.
Musical event: Ken Workman & The Union/Jehan Khoorshed & His Problems!
Ken Workman & The Union are back, and this time he is splitting the bill with by Jehan Khoorshed & His Problems! Kathryn and George invite you to join them in participating in this fun musical event featuring these two great bands.
The concert will be held tomorrow (Saturday, May 20th), 1:30 am, at Irene’s Pub Restaurant (click the restaurant name for location info).
